I was reviewing some drafts I have written up and I found this one which I thought I had published earlier. Please enjoy in its previously meant be be posted format!
I was just looking at my posting history and I see I haven’t posted since early July! My bad! I had no idea it was that long ago. My apologies. Let’s get on with my next post…
I came across an interesting article on CBC the other day. The title is something about online subscription fees, I like my title better.
Here is my breakdown
TV & Internet $99* Also includes home phone
Streaming Movies/TV & Music $15
Downloaded Movies/Music $0
Newspaper subscription $0
Magazine Subscription $0
Cloud Storage $0
Game Subscriptions $5
Phone Tablets/Apps $15
TV & Internet – we have a nice promo package at the moment, all the PVR HD TV etc, you could want and some of the fastest internet around for $99, plus tax of course. I will note our promo is due to end, and I refuse to spend more than $100 on these services, as we don’t watch much TV, and any that we do is available online for free. I’ll keep you posted on how I make out with this.
Streaming moves/tv/music – We do rent an occasional new release right off the TV, maybe once a month, 6.99 a shot We also rent 2 maybe 3 Mad Men newly released episdoes as well. I’m afraid I’ve lost touch with he music scene, so I don’t pay for any tunes at the moment. I do hear there are some good free/low cost alternative out there.
Downloaded Movies/Music – again zero, we stream everything as we watch it right away.
Newspaper – I admit I enjoy reading the local paper every now and then, however I also find that I’m reading about things I read about 2 or 3 days ago online. So I would definitely not pay for this.
Magazine – Something else I enjoy browsing every now and then but something I don’t want to pay for.
Cloud Storage – Everything we have is back up on our external hard drive. Also a few items are backed up to CDs/DVDs (anyone else still use these?)
Game Subscriptions – I do have an Xbox Gold membership. This is something that I have really had virtually no time for in the last year or so, especially the last 8 months. Also this blog takes up a lot of the time I would have previously spent gaming! I will add that I have easily gotten my moneys worth over the years with my subscription, however given how little I have played and anticipate playing in the next few year, it could well be cancelled.
Phone/Tablet Apps – I assume this means the cost of your phone itself, which I laid out here $23 for anyone who is too lazy to click on the link, and that includes the phone and extra texting costs. I’ve never paid for an app, we only have an Ipod to play apps on, and there are so many good free apps, you would have to be cray-cray to pay for them.
So I have a grand total of about $150 taxes inc. Not too shabby. I know of many people who’s TV/internet package alone is much more than this. How are you doing? What are your areas of tech spending weakness? Let the Fake Cheap know!
