The snipping refers to the Cable TV of course.
The day finally arrived. After having to give my cable company 30 days notice to disconnect, the big day finally happened. I turned on the TV the other day and “NO SIGNAL”. As you can see my family and I are still alive and well, 3 days into it. So far, I’m enjoying the piece and quiet and the cable is not missed. I’m well aware that the NFL is kicking off soon, and the NBA season is just around the corner, so some solution needs to be found for my viewing purposes. And the few TV shows we did watch on TV, we just fire them up on the laptop streamed off the net or even hook the laptop up to the TV to watch just like old times.
It was an interesting conversation I had with the cable/internet company rep when I called to disconnect surrounding my internet package. I selected a mid tear internet speed and the rep kindly reminded me that I should probably have a better/faster package, because of all my devices using the wireless access as once. “You won’t want to lose any speed on your wireless devices like your iPads or your smartphones.” My reply: “I don’t have any of those” ….9 seconds of silence…”well your laptop, you want to have super speed so you can download your all your movies and TV shows in just a few minutes.” “Download? I haven’t done anything like that in a long time, I do stream every now and then, so this package I have selected should be fine.” He saw my point and moved on.
What about the price you ask? Ah yes the price. As previously discussed, my promo price of $99 for home phone/internet/HD cable with PVR ran out in July. So if I wanted to keep that package, the new price was a staggering $169 a month plus tax of course, lets call it $190/mth. I started the call asking if they could do better on my existing package price, or even match the competition, I made it sounds as if I was strongly considering switching providers. The didn’t match, but they did to reduce my cost to $149 +tax per month, but only for a year. Not good enough for The Fake Cheap. So I said, lets cut the cable, what would the price be now, no cable and the slightly slower internet speed and home phone? $104.95 + tax. Much better. I really was hoping for $99 per month, but that will have to do. I will also point out that I do plan to have cable again in the future, but not for a few months at least, I’m hoping they will offer another promo deal that I will be eligible for.
I’ll be sure to keep you posted on how we are surviving in a world without cable.
